With the unexpected success of John Wick back in 2014, a sequel was sure to arrive. John Wick Chapter 2 was released earlier this year and proved to be a major success with critics and was a hit at the Box Office earning $171 million. It was confirmed that John Wick will return to the big screen with Keanu Reeves playing the titular assassin after the stunning ending of Chapter 2. Chad Stahelski (director of both films) will serving as the “prep director” as the film hasn’t secured a director yet since Stahelski has committed to a reboot of Highlander. As far as we know, the third film will be penned by the same screenwriter of the previous entries, Derek Kolstad. In a statement Stahelski said, “We want to expand the mythology and show you more of the intricacies of the world. It wouldn’t make sense just to go big and blow up a freeway. We want to show you cool and intricate details.”
A release date has been set for May 17, 2019, which is bold considering it’s the start of the summer season. Around that time these films will be released: Avengers 4, Aladdin and Minecraft. Lionsgate will be distributing the film. It’s only a wonder if this will be John’s final bout or the start of a continuing franchise.
Until then, we look forward to seeing you soon, Mr. Wick.
