Officially, it has been determined that the science fiction film Chaos Walking will receive a release date of March 1, 2019. It will star Daisy Ridley and Tom Holland. The source material is based off of a novel by Patrick Ness, which has the same name.
Set on a planet known as the New World, the plot revolves around a journey involving Holland and Ridley’s characters, with Ridley acting as a potential figure of salvation from an overwhelming force.
This formula may sound slightly familiar, considering that Ridley is no stranger to distant planets, having gotten her start in the immense blockbuster film, Star Wars: the Force Awakens. However, for those worried about the possibility of Ridley being typecast, the source material distinguishes itself in the genre. The action and tension of the film are the result of a virus, which ultimately overwhelms its victims and their senses. The nature of this virus also leaves those on the planet unable to rely on their perception of reality, imbuing an air of fear, danger, and mistrust.
Also setting the film apart is director Doug Liman, known for helming the critic and audience acclaimed End of Tomorrow starring Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt. The film also boasts an adapted screenplay by Charlie Kaufman (Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Anomalisa) which could lead us to believe that the film will be somewhat of a creative mind-bend.
With nearly two years left until the film hits the big screen, fans of Holland and Ridley can still see the actors in other impressive projects. Holland stars in the well-received film, Spider-Man: Homecoming, which is currently in the theaters. Ridley will be appearing Murder on the Orient Express on November 10, 2017 and the hugely anticipated next installment of the new Star Wars trilogy, The Last Jedi, which will be released on December 15, 2017.
