Zhang Ziyi, well known for her lead roles in Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, House of Flying Daggers and Memoirs of a Geisha, has joined the cast, according to Deadline. Ziyi has also been signed on for the Godzilla vs. Kong, to be released in 2020. Zhang Ziyi will be joining a star-studded cast which includes Millie Bobby Brown (Stranger Things), Kyle Chandler (Manchester by the Sea, The Wolf of Wall Street), Bradley Whitford (The Cabin in the Woods, Get Out), Thomas Middleditch (Silicon Valley), Ken Watanabe (Letters From Iwo Jima, Inception), and Vera Farmiga (The Conjuring, Source Code).
Godzilla: King of the Monsters will be directed by Michael Dougherty, who directed Krampus and has written stories and screenplays for X-Men: Apocalypse and Superman Returns. The film is being co-written by Dougherty, Max Borenstein (Kong: Skull Island), and Zach Shields (Krampus), and will be executively produced by Shields and Alex Garcia (300: Rise of an Empire, Blackhat). Godzilla: King of the Monsters will be stomping into theaters sometime in 2019.
