Idris Elba and Kate Winslet play stranded strangers forced to work with perilous elements in the forthcoming adventure drama The Mountain Between Us. The 20th Century Fox title has unveiled our first look at the feature. The feature comes from director Hany Abu-Assad (Paradise Now, the Oscar-nominated Omar), making his English-language debut and scripters Chris Weitz (Rogue One: A Star Wars Story) and J. Mills Goodloe (The Age of Adaline). The film is an adaptation of Charles Martin’s novel.
The synopsis reads: “Stranded after a tragic plane crash, two strangers must forge a connection to survive the extreme elements of a remote snow covered mountain. When they realize help is not coming, they embark on a perilous journey across hundreds of miles of wilderness, pushing one another to endure and discovering strength they never knew possible. The film is directed by Academy Award nominee Hany Abu-Assad and stars Academy Award winner Kate Winslet and Golden Globe winner Idris Elba.”
Dermot Mulroney and Beau Bridges co-star. Elba, a SAG Award winner for Beasts of No Nation and a Golden Globe Award winner for Luther, recently appeared on screen in Star Trek: Beyond and will next be seen in the eagerly awaited Stephen King adaptation The Dark Tower. Elba also co-stars in Aaron Sorkin’s upcoming feature Molly’s Game and will be featured in Marvel’s Thor: Ragnarok. Winslet, an Oscar winner for The Reader, recently appeared in Collateral Beauty and was nominated for an Academy Award and won a Golden Globe for her acclaimed performance in Steve Jobs (2015). She will soon appear in Woody Allen’s Wonder Wheel.
The Mountains Between Us hits theaters on October 20th.
