The new Paddington film trailer has just been released, following the first film from 2014. Written by the film’s director, Paul King, along with screenwriter Simon Farnaby, Paddington 2 continues a series of movie adaptations from the iconic British children’s books by Michael Bond.
The trailer opens on a scene of Paddington Bear, voiced by Ben Whishaw (Skyfall) attempting to clean a window. Unfortunately for him, it seems like his clumsiness will not be the only dramatics that he will encounter in the film, as “mysterious things” have been occurring throughout London. The trailer offers up several shots of intrigue: newcomer to the franchise, Hugh Grant (Love Actually), in a knight’s armor; a hot air balloon flying across a street; and Paddington himself comically riding a dog.
The film also consists of a strong cast: Jim Broadbent (Moulin Rouge!), Imelda Staunton (Maleficent), Peter Capaldi (Doctor Who), Julie Walters (Brave), returning actress Madeleine Harris, and Brendan Gleeson (Edge of Tomorrow). Coupled with whimsical humor and moments of striking cinematography and framing, the film will offer an appeal to parents and their children.
Paddington 2 will be released earlier in the U.K. on November 10th, 2017 and later in the United States on January 12, 2018.
