20th Century Fox ushered in a grand – and starkly elegiac – new Super Bowl LI glimpse of their eagerly anticipated Logan. Featuring quite possibly the last cinematic glimpse of Hugh Jackman as Wolverine, the film is arriving with a flutter of expectations as well as a shot in the arm (in part, surely, with its R-rating, a first for an X-Men feature outside of last year’s anarchic Deadpool).
Logan settles in an a weary Wolverine in the not to distant future as he tends to an ill Professor X (played, once again, by Patrick Stewart) in relative seclusion. However, this respite is short lived as dark forces – in the form of a young mutant – threaten to upend things as well as put a damper on Wolverine’s razor legacy. Boyd Holbrook (Gone Girl), Stephen Merchant (Table 19), Doris Morgado (2 Guns) and newcomer Dafne Keen join the team. James Mangold, who sharpened his superhero/Marvel skills with The Wolverine, directs and co-wrote the screenplay along with Michael Green and Scott Frank.
Check out the “graceful” new glimpse below.
Logan opens in theaters on March 3rd. Beforehand, the film will make its world premiere at the upcoming Berlin Film Festival.
