Only a few weeks ago, we were naming the frontrunners for the upcoming Deadpool sequel. Now it has been confirmed by Twentieth Century Fox that David Leitch, most know for the John Wick series, will be directing Deadpool 2.
The plot for the upcoming film is not known, aside from the fact that the mutant Cable will be featured. There were originally rumors of potential cast members for the action flick, but since the departure of original director Tim Miller (as well as composer Junkie XL), everything is up in the air.
Leitch has certainly paid his dues in Hollywood, working his way up doing stunts for films such as 300, Bourne Ultimatum, Matrix Reloaded, and Matrix Revolution, as well as serving as Brad Pitt’s stunt double in Oceans Eleven, Mr & Mrs Smith, and Troy. He later worked as stunt coordinator and/or second unit director for films such as Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Jurassic World, and Captain America: Civil War.
Leitch recently completed filming for his second feature film in Germany, Hungary, and the UK. The film, The Coldest City, is a Cold War thriller starring Charlize Theron, James Mcavoy and John Goodman. He is also currently attached to projects Cowboy Ninja Viking with Chris Pratt, and the Rain mini-series with his John Wick star Keanu Reeves, but given his Deadpool commitment, we will see if these other projects actually get off the ground.
We can expect to see Deadpool 2 hit theaters in 2018.
