Catherine Keener has joined the cast of Soldado, the follow-up to 2015’s cartel bustin’ thriller Sicario. Stefano Sollima (Gomorra) is directing the film, which was scripted by Sicario writer Taylor Sheridan.
The Hollywood Reporter says the sequel will focus on the mysterious Alejandro Gillick (Benicio Del Toro) and CIA Agent Matt Graver (Josh Brolin) as they continue to hunt down cartel kingpins, no matter what the cost. Keener is said to be portraying Graver’s boss, someone who may be able to shed more light on the relationship Graver and Gillick have as they defend the United States border from the shadows.
Soldado is being produced by Thunder Road’s Basil Iwanyk, Black Label’s Molly Smith and Thad and Trent Luckinbill, and Edward McDonnell.
Keener, who can most recently be seen starring in HBO’s miniseries Show Me A Hero, can also be seen in Sony Pictures’ upcoming November Criminals, which stars Chloe Grace Moretz and Ansel Elgort. The Jordan Peele-directed Blumhouse/Universal film, Get Out, also features Keener’s talent.
