The fifth installment of the Johnny Depp‘s signature franchise – Pirates of the Caribbean – may have wrapped principle photography, but that may not prevent Paul McCartney from joining the fun. According to Deadline, Sir Paul has quietly taken a part in the upcoming swashbuckler titled Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man Tell No Tales. He wouldn’t be the first English rock legend to take part in the franchise either – Rolling Stones icon Keith Richards notably played the daddy to Depp’s Capt. Jack Sparrow in the previous Rob Marshall-directed On Stranger Tides.
There’s no clue as to what McCartney might be doing in the Pirates film and it may very well likely be just a single scene – reportedly the former Beatles star was on the Dead Man Tell No Tales set for what wasn’t a re-shoot, but an additional scene. The film is being directed by Joachim Ronning and Espen Sandberg, who made an international impression with the 2012 Norwegian flick Kon-Tiki (which was nominated for the Best Foreign Film Oscar). Depp returns to the role of Jack Sparrow, a role that in it’s first iteration back in 2003 earned the star his first Academy Award nomination. Geoffrey Rush (The King’s Speech) and Orlando Bloom (Elizabethtown) return to the franchise and are joined by newcomers Javier Bardem (The Counselor), Brenton Thwaites (The Giver) and Kaya Scodelario (The Maze Runner).
Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man Tell No Tales is set to open in theaters on May 26, 2017.
