The first still from the video game adaptation Assassin’s Creed has been released to Entertainment Weekly. The film stars Michael Fassbender (Steve Jobs), Marion Cotillard (Macbeth), Brendan Gleeson (Suffragette), Jeremy Irons (Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice) and Michael Kenneth Williams (Captive). Justin Kurzel (Macbeth) is directing.
The still shows Fassbender as Callum Lynch leaning over a ledge with the yet-to-be revealed character played by Ariane Labed (The Lobster). The context of the image is unclear but based on the game, it would be safe to assume that Labed is a fellow assassin and the pair are planning to sneak into a building.
The franchise follows a centuries old war between two groups, the Assassins and the Templars. The game series follows an Assassin’s descendant who uses virtual reality technology to recall his ancestors memories. There has been no word whether that aspect will be included in the film. We do know that Fassbender’s character is brand new to the franchise, never appearing in any of the franchises nine games.
We previously saw a promotional image of Fassbender in full Assassin gear much closer to the outfit in the game. This leaves to reason that the new still is from earlier in the film.
We’ll have more on the film leading up to its December 21 release.
