The nominations for the 21 annual Critics’ Choice Awards have been announced, often an important bellwether on the road to Oscar. George Miller’s Mad Max: Fury Road led the charge with 13 nominations including a mention for Best Picture, Best Director and perhaps most telling, Charlize Theron (Monster) was cited for her leading performance. Todd Haynes’ Carol, Ridley Scott’s The Martian and Alejandro González Iñárritu’s The Revenant all earned nine nods a piece.
Mad Max: Fury Road has been having a hell of season so far…at least among critics groups. The caveat for it’s charge with the Critics’ Choice Awards comes that they also have categories that signal the best films and performances in particular genres- like Best Action Film, Best Comedy Film and Best Sci-Fi/Horror Film.
The Critics’ Choice Awards are voted on by members of the Broadcast Film Critics Assocation, which is the largest film critics organization in the United States with a membership that consists of 300 television, radio and online journalists. Winners will be announced on January 17, 2016 (three days after Oscar nominations are announced) in a ceremony hosted by T.J. Miller. Check out the full list of film nominations below:
