They played buddy cops in the 2010 comedy The Other Guys, but Mark Wahlberg and Will Ferrell‘s next collaboration will see them in clashing roles as a warring father and stepfather in Daddy’s Home.
The plot follows Ferrell as a new and somewhat uptight stepfather. His new family situation gets a lot more complicated when his stepchildren’s freeloading and fun-loving biological father (Wahlberg) comes back into the picture to wreak havoc. The two find themselves in an unofficial and out-of-control World’s Best Dad competition.
The film also stars Linda Cardellini (Netflix’s Bloodline), Thomas Hayden Church (Sideways), Hannibal Buress (Neighbors), and model Alessandra Ambrosio. Horrible Bosses 2 filmmakers Sean Anders and John Morris directed the film, working from a script by Brian Burns (HBO’s Entourage).
Wahlberg probably didn’t have to research his cool-guy role too extensively. On the other hand, Ferrell, typically known for his outrageous goofball characters, will be showing audiences a tightly-wound side rarely seen in his films – his last similar role likely being 2005’s Kicking and Screaming.
Daddy’s Home will be coming to theaters Christmas Day.
