The YA adaptation Carrie Pilby has added Tom Wilkinson and James Ritter to its cast. They join Hailee Steinfeld (Pitch Perfect 2) in the coming-of-age tale based on the popular novel by Caren Lissner.
Lissner’s novel centers on Carrie (Steinfeld), a prodigy struggling with real life after graduating from Harvard at the age of 19. Wilkinson (Selma) will portray Carrie’s father, who struggles to raise his highly gifted daughter on his own. Ritter (TV’s Parenthood) plays Matt, an engaged man Carrie dates only with the intention of exposing his infidelity to his fiance. Eddie Izzard was previously announced as Dr. Petrov, Carrie’s therapist, doing his best trying to steer her through her transition into the real world.
Lissner’s bestselling novel, originally published by Harlequin under their Red Dress imprint, was later released by Harlequin Teen, and caught the eye of producer Suzanne Farwell (The Intern). Mean Creek producer Susan Johnson will make her directorial debut, from a script by Kara Holden (Meant to Be).
