Disney and Marvel have released the third trailer for the upcoming Avengers: Age of Ultron, building on fan excitement after the recent release of the film’s latest poster and an aggressive social media campaign to get #avengersassemble to trend (and as of this writing, it is). The trailer features series veterans Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.), Captain America (Chris Evans), The Incredible Hulk (Mark Ruffalo), Thor (Chris Hemsworth), Black Widow (Scarlett Johanson), and Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner) battling the evil Ultron (James Spader) in an attempt to save the planet from a villainous force that Stark himself may have inadvertently set in motion. More prominently featured in this trailer, too, are Scarlett Witch (Elizabeth Olsen) and Quicksilver (Aaron Taylor Johnson), who appear to be aiding Ultron. We also get our first shot of the entire team in action together at 1:08.
This trailer also peels back a couple more layers on the plot, seeming to reveal Ultron’s plans to be a Matrix-style extermination of the pestilence of mankind…all for the sake of peace, of course.
The latest film in the Marvel universe is written and directed by Joss Whedon and based on the comics by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby. Age of Ultron is slated for a May 1 release. Check out the trailer below.
