Though the Lego Movie won’t be picking up a statue for Best Animated Feature at the Oscars later this month, you’ll still be able to get its infectious theme stuck in your head again, thanks to Canadian pop group Tegan and Sara, with an assist from Andy Samberg’s Lonely Island.
The Lego Movie was considered a virtual lock for a Best Animated Feature nod at this year’s Academy Awards, some even positing it for a shot at Best Picture. Sadly, the film’s sole nomination was for its catchy, upbeat, don’t-question-authority anthem, “Everything is Awesome,” which scored a nomination for Best Original Song. The tune, featured in a number of versions throughout the film, is also up for a Grammy – which will be doled out this Sunday in downtown Los Angeles.
Tegan, Sara, and The Lonely Island music/comedy troupe will perform alongside a lineup of music stars also playing their nominated tunes: John Legend and Common’s ‘Glory’ from the civil rights drama Selma, Adam Levine’s ‘Lost Stars’ from the film Begin Again, and Rita Ora’s ‘Grateful’ from Beyond the Lights. The fifth nominee, ‘I’m Not Gonna Miss You’, from the documentary Glenn Campbell: I’ll Be Me will be performed by Tim McGraw.
The 87th Academy Awards will be held on February 22nd in Hollywood, and hosted by Neil Patrick Harris.
