Another actor behind one of the best performances of the year is in talks to join the upcoming Skull Island. Birdman himself, Michael Keaton, is in talks to join the King Kong prequel according to Deadline. If he signs on to the film, he’ll join J.K. Simmons (Whiplash) who was cast in the John Vogt-Roberts film last month.
Keaton has been in a number of big-budget, high-profile movies recently, including Need For Speed and RoboCop. He had smaller roles in those movies, but given his success with Birdman, it’s likely he will have a bigger part in Skull Island. Keaton’s next appearance will be in another spin-off, Minions, to which he lent his voice. His next live-action performance is in the journalistic thriller, Spotlight, with Rachel McAdams and Mark Ruffalo. Both of those movies are currently are in post-production.
Skull Island appears to be the go-to movie for the second-billed – fan-favorite but still somewhat unknown Tom Hiddleston (The Avengers) was the first to join the movie. It’s set to release in 2017.
