The Star Wars franchise, known for its sometimes balletic fight scenes, has added a few new names that should continue to elevate that reputation. Iko Uwais, Yahan Ruhian, and Cecep Arif Rahman – known for their roles in The Raid where their martial arts skills were showcased amazingly- have joined the illustrious cast of Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens.
This trio earned fame with their roles in The Raid and its sequel, where Uwais and Ruhian’s characters cleared out the streets of Jakarta using only their martial arts skills and police savvy, while Rahman – who only joined the franchise in its sequel – played their enemy, matching Uwais’ character move for move. Their particular brands of martial arts, pencak silat, will certainly add a flair of the exotic to a movie that is supposedly set in a galaxy far, far away.
Other news has come out about the new film in recent weeks, including photos of the Millennium Falcon (seen here), and character info released in the form of trading cards (read about it here).
Though there’s no word yet on the characters’ names or whether they will be on the Light side of the Force or the Dark, we can be sure that these three men will make for some incredible actions scenes. We’ve also not received word on the characters played by Hollywood stars, such as Lupita Nyong’o’s, Domnhall Gleeson’s, or even Andy Serkis’ characters, but whatever the case may be for these stars, we can be sure that news will continue to trickle down to us as the countdown to December 18 continues.
