Welcome to the Weekly Trailer Roundup, where we count down the top five trailers released in the past week, “top” being defined any way we want to at the moment…exciting, ridiculous, best, worst…
These are the trailers that, for one reason or another, you should be paying attention to.
Halloween is here! It’s time for thrills, chills, spills, and… What? Halloween’s over? We didn’t do anything for it and now it’s too late? Okay… well… In celebration of the post-Halloween season and all the horrors it brings – like looking into your jack-o-lanterns to see what rancid thing some teenagers left in it, and praying it’s only rotten eggs; or, cleaning up the pumpkin ale-induced vomit all over your carpet, ceiling, and walls – here are some trailers that looked pretty scary. Just work with us, please; it’s been a long, pumpkin ale-filled week.
#5 – Starry Eyes
Few films are brave enough to show the abject horror of working in a place that sells “freedom tots.” The creators of Starry Eyes went there, and we can only hope their souls were whole when they came back.
#4 – Broken Contract
This Australian film, on the other hand, was brave enough to show the abject horror of making a contract. Seriously, hitman or no hitman, wage negotiations are a nightmare.
#3 – Ex Machina
Sure questions about the thin line between human conscience and artificial intelligence are pretty scary to think about. But, what’s even more scary to think about: the prospect of a sex scene between Domhnall Gleeson and the freaky robot girl.
#2 – Before I Disappear
Frankly we’re just afraid for the little girl’s well being. Frankly, the kids in Cub have a longer life expectancy than her.
#1 – A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night
We can’t decide what the scariest part of this trailer is: the mood, the setting, the vampire, or the Iranian woman dressed in a cowboy outfit.
