Accompanying the news today that another Sony movie, the Brad Pitt WWII drama Fury, would be moved up on the calendar, the studio also announced that next summer’s Adam Sandler comedy Pixels is being pushed back from May 15th to July 24th, 2015. The movie, which is still filming and being directed by Chris Columbus (Mrs. Doubtfire), features Sandler (That’s My Boy) starring along with Kevin James (Paul Blart: Mall Cop), Josh Gad (Jobs), Michelle Monaghan (the upcoming The Best of Me), and Peter Dinklage (Death at a Funeral). The story features Sandler and a team of fellow gamers being recruited by the President (James) to thwart an invasion by aliens who have taken on the form of classic video game characters. Though Sony did not give an official reason for the change in dates, it seems likely that the extensive visual effects needed in a film like this are the cause for the delay. The movie is actually based on a short film by Patrick Jean that became a sensation on the internet and caught Hollywood’s eye. You can check out the short for yourself after the jump.
