20th Century Fox has put out one last trailer for Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, the sequel to 2011’s Rise of… , before the film releases on July 11. While the previous trailer followed events from the apes’ point of view as an uneasy peace disintegrated and a virus devastated the human race, the new trailer shows the human perspective.
With much of the human race wiped out, society has fallen apart while the apes only continue to grow more powerful and intelligent. The apes have never relied on the infrastructure and utilities of an advanced civilization, unlike the humans who used to take electricity and running water for granted. To make matters worse, a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it moment in the last trailer implied that apes have begun using weaponry more advanced than spears. The 1:30 mark of this trailer seems to confirm those fears.
Andy Serkis as Caesar is the only returning cast member. Gary Oldman joins the cast as human desperately trying to keep the peace between apes and humans even while war seems inevitable. Jason Clarke, Keri Russell, and Judy Greer will also appear. Matt Reeves directs the screenplay from Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver, the writers from Rise, along with Mark Bomback.
