The weekend box office saw both familiar and new faces this week, with multiple highly anticipated premieres, including the long-awaited Coyote Vs. Acme. While Coyote wasn’t able to usurp Spider-Man, which netted 22 million in its fifth week, it put up a noble fight, coming in second with 15 million for its opening week. The Odyssey came in third with 14.3 million. Insidious dropped to fourth with 10.1 million and just barely managed to stay above newcomer Dog Stars, which bombed, landing in fifth with 8 million. This figure is far below original estimates for the latest Ridley Scott directorial outing, with industry projections originally predicting a near 20 million opening.

Buddy opened in sixth place, bringing in 5.36 million for a modest horror flick premiere, knocking out The End of Oak Street, which finished with 4.95 million. Dino’s are all the rage for the kids too as Paw Patrol: Dino Movie finished in eighth in its third week with 4.87 million. Jason Statham-led Mutiny followed, dropping to ninth with 2.75 million in its second week. The top ten was rounded out by Tony, which in its fourth week brought home 2.1 million.
