Following its recent London premiere and multiple test screenings by 20th Century Studios, critics have taken to X (Formerly Twitter) to share their first reactions to The Dog Stars, the newest film from Blade Runner and Alien director Ridley Scott. The film stars Jacob Elordi, Josh Brolin, and Margaret Qualley, and is based on the best-selling book of the same name by Peter Heller. It is a post-apocalyptic thriller following Elordi as a survivor of a flu pandemic that wiped out most of humanity.

Reactions appear mixed, with many praising Ridley Scott’s direction, but criticizing the story and pacing.

“The Dog Stars felt like it forced from-the-book moments in, drawing it out a bit. That said, the second hour is intense & quite good. The characters are developed well enough to care into *wild* story turns. Also, get unexpectedly close to Josh Brolin in CoD Zombies short film.”

“The Dog Stars is a fine film that at under two hours still feels like its missing something. Ridley Scott knows how to film stunning landscapes, but falls short with a run of the mill post-apocalyptic film that-just-is. Josh Brolin is superb as always and eats up every scene he’s in. I need a grumpy old man film with Brolin and Pearce ASAP!”
