The End of Oak Street is shaping up to be a surprise hit this summer. The sci-fi thriller debuted at 89% on Rotten Tomatoes at 45 reviews. The film stars Anne Hathaway and Ewan McGregor and follows a family whose street is somehow moved to a land of dinosaurs. The official synopsis reads, “After a mysterious cosmic event rips Oak Street from suburbia and transports their neighborhood to someplace unknown, the Platt family soon discovers that their very survival depends on them sticking together as they navigate their now unrecognizable surroundings.

The film was directed by David Robert Mitchell and is produced by J.J. Abrams. Alongside Hathaway and McGregor are Maisy Stella and Christian Convery, who play the couple’s children. Anne Hathaway has had a busy year so far, appearing in five separate movies over the course of 2026. Besides The End of Oak Street, she led the A24 thriller Mother Mary, starred in two huge blockbusters in The Odyssey and The Devil Wears Prada 2, and will appear in the hotly-anticipated Colleen Hoover adaptation Verity alongside Dakota Johnson and Josh Hartnett.

The End of Oak Street aims to scratch that dinosaur itch that clearly still exists in pop culture, as is evident by the Jurassic World films. Producer J.J. Abrams expressed his confidence in the film when talking about David Robert Mitchell’s vision. He said, “It wasn’t about either adding onto or changing anything that David was doing, it was trying to help him get on the set as quickly as possible in the best possible place with the best possible team to make this movie, because David had such a clear sense of what the film was going to be from the beginning.”

The End of Oak Street hits theaters this weekend on August 14.
