Disney has officially greenlit a new spinoff installment to the Descendants franchise. Titled Hidden Heroes: A Descendants Story, the film is set to be a musical spinoff centering around the children of iconic Disney sidekick characters. The plot of Hidden Heroes is set to center around a secret training facility called “Sidekick Academy” where a group of descendants of sidekicks finds themselves banding together without their parents or heroes to protect the fairytale realm from a villainous duo.
The film’s cast consists of Dior Goodjohn as Jennie (daughter of the Genie from Aladdin), Momona Tamada as Zara (daughter of Yzma from The Emperor’s New Groove), Jacob Rodriguez as Kronk Jr. (son of Kronk, also from The Emperor’s New Groove), Eva Fossaceca Smedley as Meri (daughter of Merryweather from Beauty and the Beast), and Harry Jones as Lou (son of Lumiere from Beauty and the Beast). In addition, Rhys Dawkins, Connor Wong, and Kyra Wong will be playing the Potts Siblings, the children of Mrs. Potts from Beauty and the Beast.
The film will be directed by Jude Weng, from a script by Tamara Chestna, Eydie Faye, and Emma Fletcher. Executive producers on the film are Mark Ordesky, Jane Fleming, Gary Marsh, and Tamara Chestna.
The announcement of this spin-off film comes not long after the recent success of the fifth film in the Descendants franchise, Descendants: Wicked Wonderland, which was ranked as the No. 1 movie on Disney+ globally based on views from July 17-27, and whose soundtrack debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard Soundtracks chart, receiving 50.8 million streams globally.
The Hidden Heroes: A Descendants Story will begin production next week. A possible release date currently isn’t known.
