As the MCU is currently on a collision course towards introducing the X-Men, director Jake Schreier’s upcoming film is beginning to build out its cast.  On the official opening day for Marvel’s Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which is currently tracking to have a record-breaking $900 million opening weekend, Marvel announced the casting of Samara Weaving as Emma Frost.

More nuggets have appeared in recent MCU projects, including references to “mutants”, “enhanced beings”, and more.  It has since been reported that the auction process for the X-Men film has been ongoing since May, with Marvel President Kevin Feige and director Jake Schreier zeroing in on Weaving earlier this week.  It is said that the casting process was extensive, with a multitude of actresses vying for the role.  Following the acquisition of 20th Century Fox by Disney in 2019, they have held off on rushing into an X-Men project, partially due to the critical and commercial bomb that was 2019’s Dark Phoenix.  The character briefly appears in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, but January Jones officially portrayed the role in 2011’s X-Men: First Class.

Weaving herself is off to a massive start in 2026, already starring in Ready Or Not 2: Here I Come, Over Your Dead Body, and Carolina Caroline.  Collider provided a brief description of what audiences can expect from the Emma Frost character.

Introduced in Marvel Comics in 1980, Emma Frost began as the formidable White Queen of the Hellfire Club before eventually becoming one of the X-Men’s most important members. She’s an exceptionally powerful telepath who can also transform her body into organic diamond, giving Marvel plenty to play with whenever the character makes her MCU debut.

While the bulk of the cast is still unknown, Jake Schreier is set to direct the project, with Kevin Feige and Stephen Broussard producing.  Penning the script are Michael Lesslie, Joanna Calo, and Lee Sung Jin.  The release date is not currently known.
