Amidst an ongoing anti-Zionist boycott in regards to the ongoing Palestinian-Israeli conflict, as well as the unfavorable firing of “requel” lead Melissa Barrera, Scream 7 has reached first place in it’s opening weekend at the box office. The legacy horror franchise, which now spawns three decades, sees a record breaking debut for Paramount Pictures at a $64.1 million domestic gross. The film sees the return of scream queen Neve Campbell’s character Sidney Prescott returning to the helm under the direction of franchise creator Kevin Williamson. The film had reportedly faced a $500 thousand script rewrite as a result of Barrera’s firing (co-lead Jenna Ortega had also exited the project shortly after in support), as well as numerous shifts in directors. Scream 7 also sees the return of franchise star Courteney Cox as well as the deceased characters of David Arquette, Matthew Lillard, and Scott Foley in an A.I.-inspired capacity. The debut becomes the biggest for 2026 so far despite a 33% Rotten Tomatoes critics score.
Sony Pictures’ Stephen Curry-produced animated film GOAT drops down to second place this weekend due to Scream‘s debut. The anthropomorphic sports film stars Caleb McLaughlin in the lead voice role as a basketball playing pygmy goat. The film adds $12 million to its $73 million-plus gross in its third week. Warner Bros. Pictures “Wuthering Heights”, also in its third week, earns just under $7 million this weekend. The film marks Emerald Fennell’s third directorial outing, and marks her second collaboration with 2026 Oscar nominee Jacob Elordi. The pair previously worked together in 2023’s Saltburn. The near two century old-Emily Brontë adaptation also stars Margot Robbie, who has a hand at producing all three Fennell projects.
The next two slots come in the form of concert films. At fourth place is alt-rock band Twenty One Pilots’ More Than We Ever Imagined. The duo, consisting of lead vocalist Tyler Joseph and drummer Josh Dun, rocked the box office with $4.3 million in its sole weekend. The Neon-released Baz Lurhmann concert film EPiC: Elvis Presley in Concert earned fifth place with $3.5 million in its second week. The film marks Lurhmann’s second Elvis-centric project after the 2022 biopic starring Austin Butler as the revered King of Rock and Roll.
In sixth place, earning $3.42 million, is Amazon MGM’s Crime 101. The star studded ensemble includes Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Barry Keoghan, Halle Berry, and Monica Barbaro. The crime thriller has grossed a total $30 million sum against a $90 million budget. The Christian bio-drama I Can Only Imagine 2 grossed $3 million in its second week, taking seventh place. The film serves as a sequel to the 2018 film and is a continuation of a story inspired by MercyMe’s song of the same name. Sam Raimi’s survival-horror film Send Help stays in the top 10 for its fifth week, adding $2 million to its hefty $59 million domestic total at eighth place. The film has earned $87.5 million globally, more than doubling its $40 million budget. The film stars Rachel McAdams and Dylan O’Brien as head-butting office co-workers stranded together on a deserted island.
Ninth place goes to the Glen Powell and Margaret Qualley-starring comedy-thriller How To Make A Killing. The A24 film debuted at a 48% critics score on Rotten Tomatoes and grossed $1.5 million this weekend in its second turn in theaters. Rounding out the top ten is Disney’s Oscar-nominated titan Zootopia 2. The film has stayed strong at the box office for fourteen consecutive weeks and adds $1 million to its enormous $425.85 million total domestic gross. Worldwide, the animated film has earned $1.859 BILLION.
