The latest outing from acclaimed director Guillermo del Toro, Frankenstein, has been making a name for itself during the awards season. Regardless of whether the film takes home any big wins or not, fans will have even more to look forward to, as del Toro himself confirmed an extended version of Frankenstein.
Del Toro’s Frankenstein marks the latest in a long line of adaptations of Mary Shelley’s classic literary masterpiece. Oscar Isaac plays Victor Frankenstein, a young scientist daring to push beyond the boundaries of possibility. In an attempt to reanimate a corpse, Victor creates new life, but soon faces the life-shattering consequences that came with his own irresponsibility.
To say that Frankenstein struck audiences and critics like lightning would be putting it mildly. It garnered an overwhelmingly warm reaction upon its limited theater release and went on to find even greater success when it made its home on Netflix. Since then, too, the film was nominated for a plethora of Academy Awards, even including a nod for Best Picture.
While Frankenstein was already a long movie, clocking in at 2 hours and 30 minutes, fans will be able to look forward to even more content soon. Many sources have been able to report, thanks to BloodyDisgusting, that del Toro himself is overseeing a special extended version of the film, aptly dubbed the “All The Stitches” cut.
As for what will be seen in the extended version, del Toro did not elaborate. Unfortunately, as Collider noted, there’s no word yet as to how big a rollout the extended version will get. While Frankenstein did get a limited theatrical run before Netflix, fans of the story and of del Toro will no doubt be clamoring to get “All The Stitches” to the big screen.
