DC Studios has shared a look at Jason Momoa as Lobo, who is set to appear in Supergirl. The video shows Momoa as he answers a question by someone off-camera. They ask him, “Do you have any comments about playing Lobo?” Momoa simply answers with, “Finally,” and laughs as he enters a car.
The rest of the video shows a closer look at Momoa as Lobo, showing him arriving on a motorcycle and a close-up of his face. Momoa had previously been linked to the character for a while, and it was made possible once Peter Safran and James Gunn took over DC Studios.
Lobo was originally supposed to be introduced to the big screen in 2009, with Guy Ritchie in mind to bring the story to life. Michael Bay was another director who was in consideration for a Lobo film, and Dwayne Johnson was considered to portray the character at one point as well. The only live-action Lobo we have seen was portrayed by Emmett J. Scanlan in Season 2 of a SyFy series, Krypton. Bullet Train and The Fall Guy director David Leitch has already expressed interest in being part of a solo Lobo movie.
Momoa will appear as Lobo in Supergirl. Following Superman’s cousin, Kara Zor-El, played by Milly Alcock, she goes on a journey throughout the galaxy to celebrate her 23rd birthday, until the young Ruthye Marye Knoll recruits her to fight against Kerm of the Yellow Hills. The film is directed by Craig Gillespie and written by Ana Nogueria.
Supergirl soars into theaters on June 26. Check out DC’s look at Momoa as Lobo below.
