Sebastian Stan is currently in talks with DC Studios to join Matt Reeves’ Elseworlds Gotham city. He wouldn’t be the only mainstay Marvel actor to make the jump as Scarlett Johansson is already attached, although Stan is currently still active and confirmed for the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday. Stan would also be joining the Caped Crusader himself, Robert Pattinson, along with Jeffrey Wright, Andy Serkis, Colin Farrell, and Barry Keoghan.
Sebastian Stan has been a main player in the MCU dating back to Captain America: The First Avenger in 2011. He’s appeared as Bucky Barnes in all four Captain America projects, Avengers: Infinity War, Avengers: Endgame, and starred in Disney Plus series The Falcon And The Winter Soldier. Most recently he starred in Thunderbolts in 2025, which will be the team he is a part of going into Avengers: Doomsday. Beyond the MCU, Stan has starred in a multitude of projects such as: The Apprentice, A Different Man, and I, Tonya.
DC had no current comment on the casting news, but we do know Reeves will be directing and penned the script alongside Mattson Tomlin, with filming looking to begin in May. The Batman: Part 2 has been delayed multiple times, with the current release date set for October 21, 2027. This would mark five plus years since the first installment’s release on March 4, 2022, which collected $770.3 million at the box office. The film received acclaim from fans and critics alike, leading to the Max spin-off The Penguin, starring Colin Farrell in the leading role. Colin Farrell and Cristin Milioti, who played Sofia Falcone, both earned a Critics Choice and Emmy award for their performances in the limited series. As of now only Farrell will be reprising his role in the upcoming sequel.
Deadline was the first to report the casting news, with Hollywood Reporter pointing out Stan’s team from CAA, Brookside Artist Management and Sloane Offer. While it is unconfirmed who Stan will be playing, be sure to stay tuned into MXDWN as The Batman: Part 2 continues to take shape.
