A Minecraft Movie has done exceptionally well at the box office. The film is already the highest-grossing film of the year at the domestic box office, grossing $380 million domestically. That total puts the movie into the top 20 highest-grossing live-action films at the U.S. box office. With its international gross of $436 million, the film has grossed $816 million worldwide, making it one of Warner Bros’ highest-grossing films, right behind 2023’s Barbie. With that total, the film could reach $1 billion at the worldwide box office by the end of its theatrical run.
A Minecraft Movie’s box office run has come at a good time for Warner Bros, which has another unprecedented success with Ryan Coogler’s Sinners. The Michael B. Jordan-led horror film has shown to have tremendous legs, making $128 million domestically and $40 million internationally, for a total worldwide gross of $168 million. Given the film’s relatively modest estimated budget of $90 million, it is well on its way to making a profit, given that, according to most sources, a film must make twice its production cost to break even.
Both A Minecraft Movie and Sinners are still playing in theaters. A Minecraft Movie’s box office may receive a slight boost with the release of the Block Party Edition of the movie, an interactive release of sorts in which the audience is recommended to quote along with the film and sing along to many of Jack Black’s songs, complete with on-screen lyrics.
