The film From The World of John Wick: Ballerina is continuing to expand the world of John Wick as it brings a new face to the franchise. As well as bringing back a familiar one. Ana de Armas stars in the film taking on John Wick’s swift fighting skills.
Keanu Reeves portrayed John Wick in four feature films. Now he is passing the torch to de Armas, however, he will join her in at least a few scenes of Ballerina. According to Screen Rant the film “will follow Ana de Armas as Eve Macarro, an assassin on a revenge mission following her father’s death.” As for the timeline of the film it takes place between John Wick Chapter 3: Parabellum and John Wick: Chapter 4.
The physical nature of the franchise is apparent in almost every scene of every movie. The Hollywood Reporter quoted de Armas discussing the physical aspect of the film, “This is by far the most physical and challenging thing I’ve ever done.” She trained for three to four months for the film and worked on weapons, action and ballet. The film will combine the fight sequences with ballet, which was not seen in Wick in the other films.
Cinema United hosted CinemaCon in Las Vegas, where it showed an extended look into the film and welcomed de Armas and Len Wiseman to discuss the film. The scenes were met with positivity from the audience, especially a fight sequence and the appearance of Reeves.
The film is from Lionsgate, directed by Len Wiseman and stars Lance Reddick, Norman Reedus, Ian McShane and Anjelica Huston alongside Ana de Armas and Keanu Reeves. Originally the film was supposed to premiere in June 2024 after it was shot in 2022 but now the film is set for its theatrical release on June 6, 2025.
