Happy Gilmore, originally released in 1996, staring Adam Sandler, is set to return with a sequel from Netflix. Its trailer has recently hit the internet. The original movie featured Gilmore, played by Sandler, as a failed NHL player who takes up golf and enrolls in a tournament following the knowledge of his skill, to help out his grandmother, who is in tax debt. The sequel depicts Gilmore returning to the game after almost thirty years of absence.
This sequel is set to be loaded with cameos, as many Sandler films are, that include: Eminem, Bad Bunny, and Ben Stiller, who is reprising his role as Gilmore’s grandmother’s orderly.
Chad Mumm who is the Pro Shop founder, recently told Hollywood Reporter,
I think Adam [Sandler’s] experience doing [his 2022 basketball film] Hustle and really making basketball authentic in that movie, he wanted to bring some of that energy to Happy Gilmore. Obviously it’s tonally very different, but they wanted the golf to feel really real, and they wanted a lot of present day and historical pro golfers to come and make cameos in the film. So they brought us on board to both help produce the golf but also make sure that they could get the golfers to show up.
Happy Gilmore 2 has a set release date on July 25, 2025 on Netflix.
