Just last year, Dafne Keen returned as Laura, also known as X-23, in Marvel Studios’ Deadpool & Wolverine. Created as a clone by the Weapon X program, Laura shares Wolverine’s abilities, such as enhanced senses, a healing factor, and retractable claws. First introduced in X-Men: Evolution (2003) and debuting in NYX #3 (2004), Laura evolves from a troubled young girl into a more complex character. After Wolverine’s death, she assumes his mantle, continuing his legacy as the new Wolverine.
Directed by Shawn Levy, Deadpool & Wolverine stars Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool and Hugh Jackman, who reprises his iconic role as Wolverine. The film’s ensemble cast includes Emma Corrin, Morena Baccarin, Rob Delaney, Leslie Uggams, Karan Soni, Matthew Macfadyen, Chris Evans, Dafne Keen, Channing Tatum, Jennifer Garner, and Wesley Snipes, with Henry Cavill making a cameo appearance.
One of the key highlights of Deadpool & Wolverine was Keen’s return as Laura/X-23, first introduced in Logan (2017). According to The Direct, Keen’s character was saved from The Void by the TVA, allowing her to remain on Earth-10005 alongside Wolverine. This opens the door for her potential inclusion in future Marvel films. Keen expressed interest in the possibility of teaming up with other Marvel heroes, stating at the Saturn Awards, “I would like to see her in a fun team-up… But I’d also be very, very open to a big whole action fight team-up with the Avengers.”
There’s also speculation that Keen could reprise her role in upcoming Marvel projects like Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars. Comic Book Movie has suggested that after Secret Wars, Keen’s character could take on the mantle of the next Wolverine in the MCU. When asked about this, Keen responded, “Well, can we both [Laura and Logan] be there? Yeah? OK, good. If we’re both there, I’d be really happy.”
With Deadpool & Wolverine sparking interest in Laura’s storyline, it remains to be seen if she will officially step into the role of Wolverine in future Marvel films. In the meantime, check out her other projects, including The Acolyte, streaming now on Disney+, where she continues to showcase her versatile talents.
