Get ready to see the combination of Emma Stone and Joaquin Phoenix in Woody Allen’s newest film. Stone seems to be following in the footsteps of Diane Keaton and Scarlett Johansson as Allen’s latest go to actress. As expected, four-time Oscar winner Allen will handle the writing, directing, and producing of the picture.
In addition to this next film (currently untitled), Stone will appear in Allen’s Magic in the Moonlight, which is soon to hit theaters on July 25. Set in the Jazz era of France, Magic in the Moonlight is a romantic comedy, which follows Colin Firth as an Englishman who becomes romantically enticed by Stone’s character while attempting to uncover her as a fraud. Although plot details for this next picture have yet to be uncovered, a leading combo of Stone and Phoenix (The Master, Walk the Line, and Gladiator) figures to be dynamic. Stone is currently on the big screen as Gwen Stacy in The Amazing Spider-Man 2 and broke into the industry with roles in more comic fare like Superbad (2007), Zombieland (2009), and Easy A (2010), and doesn’t look to be straying too far from that zone in the near future. In addition to Allen’s next two pictures, Stone is co-starring in Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu‘s comedy Birdman alongside Michael Keaton, Edward Norton, and Naomi Watts, due in theaters October 17.
There is no official distributor for the picture as of now, but Sony Pictures Classics seems the likely choice given that they’ve put out Allen’s last five films. Allen, now 78, continues to be incredibly prolific with no sign of slowing down. We always anticipate his movies with enthusiasm and look forward to the addition of Stone in his next two. Allen’s film will begin shooting in July.
