The second trailer from Warner Bros’ Companion has arrived, and it is freakier than you thought. Directed by Drew Hancock, the horror film stars Sophie Thatcher as Iris, a woman going against her twisted boyfriend, Josh, played by Jack Quaid. The creative team behind the 2022 horror Barbarian is behind this film as well.
The first teaser trailer was released in October 2024 and doesn’t reveal much aside from the fact that Iris and Josh are going through a tumultuous relationship. In this trailer, the sci-fi twist revolving around Iris was revealed. This trailer reveals Iris is an android to Josh rather than a girlfriend. The trailer opens with Iris claiming the two happiest days of her life were when she met Josh, and then when she killed him.

Entertainment Weekly also revealed three new images from the movie, featuring a seemingly uneasy scene between Iris and Josh, Iris looking filled with determination, and Quaid and costar Megan Suri looking quite shocked at something off-screen.
Quaid stressed that there is much more to be seen in Companion that the trailer did not show. With a big reveal like Iris being an android being revealed in a trailer, it makes the audience what other twists will happen in the film. He tells EW, “It was one of the best scripts I’ve ever read. I never saw any of the twists coming, but it’s not necessarily a movie that relies on a big reveal, and every reveal was fresh.”
Hancock admits he would have preferred “maintaining an aura of mystery about the movie,” but that it is also a useful way “to sell the movie,” and a way to win over audiences who might not have thought about watching this film before.
Companion premieres in theaters on January 31, 2025.
