Following the smash hit that was Alien: Romulus earlier this year, its imminent follow-up has been gradually picking up more and more steam. A new update for the film has been given from the director of Romulus himself, Fede Álvarez. Romulus brought the Alien franchise back to the first film, tying it in with its new cast of characters as they learn about the horrors that unfolded in the original film while in search of a better life for themselves.
Romulus opened to both critical praise and box office success. It took in $350 million dollars at the worldwide box office, while sporting an 80% critic score on Rotten Tomatoes, and a 7.2 out of 10 on IMDb. Collider noted that Álvarez will be returning to the film’s sequel after the success of Romulus.
Álvarez has been very open about the process of crafting the sequel, and the approach that is necessary to take. He mentioned that both him and co-writer and frequent collaborator Rodo Sayagues are generating ideas, but haven’t finalized anything until they find one that sticks out to them.
“So that’s the process we are in right now, trying to find a story that is worthy of everyone’s time and is worthy of the title,” the Don’t Breathe director initially told Gizmodo.
