Juror No. 2, the Clint Eastwood-directed courtroom drama, will be available to stream on Max around the holidays, following its limited release in theaters on November 1. The film, which may be Eastwood’s last as a director, had a brief run in just 35 theaters, and now Warner Bros. Discovery is sticking to its plan to send it straight to streaming after only a short time in theaters.
Despite the film’s positive reception, with a 91% score on Rotten Tomatoes, the studio is not moving forward with a wide theatrical release. The movie performed decently at the box office, with a projected total between $260,000 and $270,000 for its first weekend. However, given its low production budget (under $35 million), expanding the release would have brought substantial marketing costs, which the studio chose to avoid.
Starring Nicholas Hoult, J.K. Simmons, Toni Collette, Kiefer Sutherland, and Gabriel Basso, Juror No. 2 tells the story of Justin Kemp (Hoult), a juror in a high-stakes murder trial who faces a major ethical dilemma. As he realizes his influence over the jury’s decision, he’s forced to confront whether he should sway the verdict, potentially convicting or freeing the wrong person.
Though the critical praise is strong, many feel the movie deserved a bigger theatrical rollout, especially given Eastwood’s legendary status. With its limited run wrapping up, Juror No. 2 will be available to stream on Max by the end of 2024.
