Tech company Meta has recently developed a new tool that utilizes AI to edit and create video clips, called Meta Movie Gen. With this tool, they’ve partnered with filmmaking companies to give the software a proper test run.
Meta has teamed up with Blumhouse to see what some of their creative minds can do with the program. Blumhouse is responsible for a plethora of horror films, such as The Black Phone and the recent Halloween trilogy. Earlier this year, they released the James McAvoy-led Speak No Evil.
Reportedly, Meta Movie Gen, when given a text input, can both edit and create video segments clocking it at 16 seconds. It can even add in audio for the video itself, as well as render it at 16 frames per second, and in 1080p quality.
Variety reports that the filmmakers Blumhouse selected to test the program are Aneesh Chaganty, Casey Affleck, and the Spurlock Sisters.
Variety noted Chaganty’s own work has already been released, manifesting in a short film just under 3 minutes.
The short itself reflects on Chaganty’s outlook on AI within the creative industry. He uses the software on one of his own short films, using it to upgrade some of the effects that he attempted, while capping off the short by noting his swapped demeanor on the utilization of artificial intelligence as a whole.
