James Gunn Reveals Major Update On ‘Superman’ Film Production

James Gunn Reveals Major Update On ‘Superman’ Film Production

DC fans have been buzzing with excitement after James Gunn confirmed a key development in the production of his upcoming Superman film. According to Gunn, the movie, set to release in July 2025, already has an assembly cut in place, marking significant progress in the post-production phase.

Gunn responded to fan speculation on Threads, confirming that an assembly cut has been ready for some time.

“It’s been in place for a while,” Gunn said, addressing rumors that the film was farther along than many had anticipated. An assembly cut is an early version of the film where scenes are arranged in order, giving the director a sense of pacing and overall narrative. This version, while not polished with final visual effects or music, is a critical step in the editing process.

This news may surprise some fans, as large-scale comic book movies are often known for going down to the wire with post-production. Gunn, however, seems to have maintained a well-organized process throughout filming. Though there were reports that Guardians of the Galaxy had visual effects shots completed just before release, the tight shooting schedule and minimal reshoots for Superman have given the production team extra time for fine-tuning.

The film will star David Corenswet as Superman and Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane. The plot remains largely under wraps, but it is known that this Superman is already established as Earth’s protector, with a network of allies supporting him. The ensemble cast also includes Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, Wendell Pierce as Perry White and Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner, among others.

With a well-rounded team of familiar talent working on the project, including cinematographer Henry Braham and costume designer Judianna Makovsky, fans are eager to see how Gunn’s vision for the Man of Steel unfolds when Superman hits theaters on July 11, 2025.
