After much speculation, the anticipated third installment in the Avatar series has its title. Director James Cameron himself confirmed at D23 that the film will be called Avatar: Fire And Ash. Avatar: Fire And Ash is the follow-up to Avatar: The Way Of Water, which saw Jake Sully go to the extreme to keep his family safe when an old enemy resurfaces and threatens everything Jake and his family hold dear.
While little is known about the story, the title of Fire And Ash alludes to the already stated fact that the movie will spend time with a fire-based tribe of Na’Vi, similar to how Way Of Water introduced a tribe based around water. During D23, Cameron, Sam Worthington, who plays Jake Sully, and Zoe Saldaña, who plays Neytiri, appeared to discuss the third part of the series.
As Deadline reports, Cameron said during the event, “new cultures and settings… you’ll see more of Pandora the planet than you ever see saw before. The new film isn’t what you expect, but it’s definitely what you want.” Deadline also noted that there was no footage shown off for Fire And Ash, but there was some concept art shown off, depicting more of the nature of Pandora, and even some of the inhabitants.
Avatar: Fire And Ash comes out on December 19, 2025.
