Despite the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike, many independent films have been given interim agreements so the strike won’t hinder the small projects from seeing the light of day. One of the most recent agreements granted was to Sometimes I Think About Dying, which made the rounds on the opening night of the 2023 Sundance Film Festival.
Produced by and starring Daisy Ridley, Deadline was the first to report that the film will hit theaters in the US, thanks to Oscilloscope. The release will start on January 26th in the Angelika Theater, located in New York.
The agreement granted to the film gives the cast a chance to promote the movie in hopes of giving it a better chance at the box office.
Directed by Rachel Lambert, the dark comedy follows Fran, a lonely individual on the Oregon coast, with the only reprieve from her life being the time spent in her cubicle, listening to her coworkers around her. Once a friendly new coworker takes up the job, Fran faces the choice of keeping her isolated lifestyle or letting herself connect to someone trying to befriend her.
Alongside Ridley, the film stars Dave Merheje, Parvesh Cheena, Marcia Debonis, Meg Stalter, and Brittany O’Grady. Producers include Alex Saks, Dori Rath, Lauren, Brett Beveridge, and Lisa D’Ambrosio, executive producing for Mirror Image.
“There’s so much that Sometimes I Think About Dying nails about the coexisting mundanity and beauty of life. The script by Kevin, Stefanie, and Katy is wry and touching in equal measure, and the tone struck by Rachel’s direction and all the performances—led by Daisy and Dave—perfectly toe that line,” said Dan Berger, Oscilloscope President, in a statement about the agreement.
