Oscar winners Chris Overton and Rachel Shenton, best known for their short The Silent Child, have released a new lineup of projects from their production company Slick Films.
The lineup includes Isla Solidad, written by Omar Deneb Juárez and Camilo Gutiérrez Galván. The film tells the tale of a single mother who lost custody of her son and is struggling to make up for her mistakes in the past. In order to do so, she must find a way to overcome her financial burdens and take care of her sick grandmother.
Chris Overton’s In Too Deep, starring Shenton and Stephen Wight, will tell the story of a grieving father who uses AI technology to relieve memories with his child.
Other titles on the slate include:
Suzie – Director-writer Jimmy Dean follows a woman on the day she tells her son she is getting a divorce. The film will deal with the anguish of change, “confronting the complexity of family life,” and celebrating strength.
By Any Other Name — This short film explores the world of sex trafficking. Daniel Deville will direct and Camila Arnold will produce this live-action. It stars Jade Anoushka, Duncan Pow, and Avita Jay.
The Golden Boy — This movie follows six-year-old Michael, who needs help from his sister to prove his needs can’t stop his potential. The film will be directed by Elizabeth Peace and stars Gabrielle Oke and newcomer Taylor-Jai Horsely.
Ryan Can’t Read — This film, directed by Rhys Chapman, delves into the struggles of Ryan man from Liverpool facing extreme financial burdens. However, his friend shows up out of the blue and offers him a chance to get his life back on track.
All films and shorts are slated to be released within 2023 or early 2024.
