South Korean filmmaker Park Chan-wook is currently working on his upcoming thriller War and Revolt set to release on Netflix. Known for his directing in Old Boy and Decision To Leave, Park Chan-wook will be a co-writer and producer of this thriller while Kim Sang-man will be the director.
The film is set during Korea’s Joseon dynasty and follows a young friendship as they get turned against each other in the midst of war and violence surrounding the boys. The main cast includes Gang Dong-won (known for Broker & Peninsula) as a brave man named Cheon-young who rose from his past of being a slave, Park Jeong-min ( known for Deliver Us from Evil & Bleak Night) as Jong-ryeo, Cheon-young’s past slave owner and part of Joseon’s most powerful military family. During the war Jong-ryeo will have a heartbreaking reunion with his childhood friend, Cheon-young, only to realize they are standing opposite each other on the battlefield.
Struggling to break free from the chains of servitude, Cheon-young will be brought to life by Gang’s extraordinary talent, exuding charm and delivering breathtaking action sequences that will leave audiences in awe… Park’s portrayal is expected to be nothing short of mesmerizing, as he delves deep into the complex psyche of a man torn between friendship and duty, ultimately facing his own downfall.
The rest of the cast includes Cha Seung-won as King Seonjo, Kim Shin-rock as Bumdong, Jin Seon-kyu as Kim Ja-ryeong, and Jung Sung-ill as the Japanese warlord Genshin.
The film is produced by Moho Film, and the cast just had a table read for the film on Wednesday.
