At the Star Wars Celebration in London, Daisy Ridley made a guest appearance promoting her role in Sharmeen Obaid-Chinof’s new film (Deadline). Although the film is expected to take place after Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker, Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy through an interview with IGN, confirmed that it is supposed to occur fifteen years into the future as Rey tries to rebuild the Jedi Order.
Kennedy states, “Well, we’re 15 years out from ‘Rise of Skywalker,’ so we’re post-war, post-First Order, and the Jedi are in disarray. There’s a lot of discussion around, ‘Who are the Jedi? What are they doing? What’s the state of the galaxy?’ She’s attempting to rebuild the Jedi Order, based on the books, based on what she promised Luke, so that’s where we’re going.”
While the film will focus on the Jedi, it is unknown if Mark Hamill will return, whether in a flashback or ghost form. Kennedy explained, “I don’t know if we’ll spend a lot of time in flashbacks or [on] Force ghosts or things like that, but certainly, the spirit of what he represents to her will be significant.”
In addition to Obaid-Chinoy’s project, two other films will follow this story, one directed by Dave Filono and the other by James Mangold.
