The final trailer for Morbius has dropped today teasing a horror-esque character study on the historically morally ambiguous titular character. The film stars Jared Leto in the role of Morbius. The trailer opens with a paranormal attack on the crew of a cargo ship and reveals Morbius as the assailant. In the comics, Dr. Michael Morbius is a famed biochemist turned pseudo-vampire after a failed experiment. He became known simply as Morbius and took on an anti-heroic role in his struggle to balance his dueling personalities. The trailer continues on to illustrate Morbius’ post-transformation-self: a man with a serious affliction and a craving for human blood but doesn’t want to take innocent life. The film is seemingly staying true to the comic depiction of the character and is sure to explore his moral dilemma.
The trailer also teases a relationship between Leto’s Morbius and Michael Keaton’s Adrian Toomes, a character introduced as Vulture in the Marvel Cinematic Universe film Spider-Man: Homecoming. The end of that film saw Toomes arrested, which is where Morbius seems to meet up with him in the upcoming film. Since Homecoming still falls under the Sony umbrella due to its connection to the Spider-Man rights, it will be interesting to see whether the Sony and Disney Marvel universes decide to finally overtly crossover or conflict.
Alongside Leto and Keaton, the film also stars Matt Smith, Adria Arjona, Jared Harris, and Tyrese Gibson. Daniel Espinosa helms the film as director with a script penned by Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless. The film is produced by Avi Arad, Matt Tolmach, and Lucas Foster. Morbius releases in theaters on April 1. Check out the final trailer below.
