Director Guy Ritchie and Hollywood star Jake Gyllenhaal will work together for the first time on set for a yet-untitled action film. The Amazon and MGM financed project will start shooting in late January in Spain.
The film is set in the Afghan war, Jake Gyllenhaal will be playing Sgt. John Kinley, who is on his last tour of duty in Afghanistan teamed up with a local interpreter called Ahmed. When their unit gets hit by enemy forces, Kinley and Ahmed are the only survivors. With hostile units still sweeping the area, Ahmed will put his own life at risk to save the Sergeant. When Kinley returns home he learns that Ahmed and his family will not be granted safe passage and refuge in the US as had been promised. Not willing to let his friend suffer the consequences of saving him in Afghanistan, John returns to the war-ravaged country to retrieve Ahmed and his family.
Guy Ritchie who is famous for writing and directing British gangster films such as Snatch, RocknRolla, The Gentlemen, and Layer Cake will be working for the first time with Jake Gyllenhaal. The actor has some experience working in war movies from the critically acclaimed Jarhead (2005). The script is from Ritchie himself who penned it alongside his long-time co-writer and co-producer Ivan Atkinson. The production finally got greenlit when Amazon agreed to provide 50% of the funding. Filming will start shortly, in Alicante, Spain. There is as of yet no title nor a release date for the film.
