The chief electrician on the set of Rust, Serge Svetnoy, has spoken out on his Facebook page about the incident that took Halyna Hutchin’s life.
Less than a week ago news media outlets everywhere were speaking of only one thing: Alec Baldwin shot and accidentally killed someone with a prop gun on set. Only a few days later the crew and staff members of that set are ready to speak out the truth about the incident and the events leading up to that horrific accident that took the life of the director of photography, Halyna Hutchin.
With a heavy heart Mr. Svetnoy explains in detail how Ms. Hutchin died in his arms, “Yes, I was standing shoulder-to-should with Halyna during this fatal shooting that took her life and injured the director Joel Souza. I was holding her in my arms while she was dying. Her blood was on my hands. It’s the fault of negligence and unprofessionalism. The negligence from the person who was supposed to check the weapon on the site did not do this; the person who had to announce that the loaded gun was on site did not do this; the person who should have checked this weapon before bringing it to the set did not do this. And the DEATH OF A HUMAN IS THE RESULT!”
The electrician also wrote on his Facebook post early Sunday about the higher-ups responsible, such as producers, skipping all measures of safety just to keep production rolling, “To save some dimes sometimes your hire people who are not fully qualified for the complicated and dangerous job, and you risk the lives of other people who are close and your lives as well. I understand that you always fight for the budget but you cannot allow this to happen.”
Halyna Hutchins is survived by her husband Matthew Hutchins and her nine year old son Andros Hutchins.
