Happiness for Beginners, a Netflix romantic comedy from writer-director Vicky Wight, has cast Ellie Kemper (Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt), Luke Grimes (Yellowstone), Nico Santos (Crazy Rich Asians), and two-time Emmy winner Blythe Danner (Meet the Fockers) to star. Happiness for Beginners comes from a novel of the same name from author Katherine Center.
Wight, who previously adapted Center’s other novel, The Lost Husband, penned the script and is directing the rom-com, which she is also producing.
The story follows Helen (Kemper), who enrolls in a wilderness survival school after struggling to recover from her divorce. The wilderness survival course is, of course, a disaster until the irritating guy she meets turns out to be the perfect man for her. And she learns the delicious honey cliché that you only discover yourself when you lose yourself (insert eye roll here).
However, the roles that Grimes, Santos, and Danner will play have not been revealed yet.
Kemper will be seen next in the upcoming Disney+ comedy Home Sweet Home Alone, a Home Alone remake.
Grimes is currently starring in the Paramount drama series Yellowstone as Kayce Dutton. The fourth season is to premiere in Nov.
Santos is filming Andy Palmer’s comedy Re-Education of Molly Singer, which will star Britt Robertson, Jaime Pressly, and Wendie Malick. Santos is probably best known for starring as Mateo in NBC comedy Superstore.
Danner can be seen most recently in the Starz drama series American Gods as the goddess Demeter.
