Dove Cameron and Hamilton‘s Jordan Fisher are set to star in the upcoming Warner Bros and HBO Max film Field Notes on Love, which is based on the Jennifer E. Smith 2019 YA romance novel of the same name. Field Notes on Love tells the story of Hugo, who is dumped by his girlfriend before their long-planned train trip across America. She leaves him with the tickets, so he has no choice but to use them. While this happens, a girl named Mae is depressed because she was rejected from USC’s film school. She sees Hugo’s ad for a replacement for the trip, and she believes it’s the perfect opportunity to get her mind off of the rejection. Mae and Hugo quickly become friends, but it soon turns into something more.
As described by Deadline, “…However, life outside the train catches up with the duo, and they must contend with not derailing their feelings for each other”.
Author Jennifer Smith and Gilmore Girls star Lauren Graham will be helping co-adapting the film. Appian Way’s president of production Jennifer Davisson and Phillip Watson are producing. Fisher is executive producing.
Cameron is set to star as Bubbles Utonium in the new Powerpuff Girls live-action show with Chloe Bennet and Yanna Perraul. She also stars as Mal in Disney Channel’s Descendants franchise and as Amber Von Tussle in the NBC feature film Hairspray Live!
Fisher starred as John Laurens/Philip Hamilton in Hamilton on Broadway from 2016-17 and played Evan Hansen in Dear Evan Hansen in 2020. He also starred in the Netflix feature To All the Boys: P.S. I Still Love You, Work It and CW’s The Flash as Bart Allen.
Smith is a well-known author, including The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight, and her work has been translated into 33 languages.
