Recently launched movie studio STX Entertainment is in the process of casting their untitled space love story. Gary Oldman (The Dark Knight), Britt Robertson (Tomorrowland) and Carla Cugino (San Andreas) join a cast that already includes Asa Butterfield (Ender’s Game).
The story will focus on Gardner Elliot, the first human born on a colony in Mars and his online romance with a girl living in Colorado. Along the way, the two teens will delve into Elliot’s background and his mysterious birth. Peter Chelsom (Serendipity) will direct the film.
Oldman has had major success in another teen-centric genre series, Harry Potter. Robertson starred alongside George Clooney in Disney’s Tomorrowland earlier this year. Cugino also starred in another summer blockbuster vehicle led by Dwayne Johnson, San Andreas. These actors join a film focusing on the growing young adult love stories involving science fiction. If this project is half as successful as the Divergent and Hunger Games franchises, STX Entertainment will have a major victory on its infant resume.
Production on the film will begin this fall.
